The tome of the beholder

chapter 3

The Subway Ride
__________________

An employee of Big Business Inc. is running on autopilot trying his best to stay awake while boarding the last subway train for the night with a few other strangers to get home. There was a highschool aged teenager with headphones blaring rock music in her ears, a humble and nice looking baby faced old man toting a wooden cane and newspaper in hand, and finally the last stranger admittedly caught him by surprise at first glance. Standing at a staggering 8ft, the pale woman with long, shiny curtain black hair draping down from a round straw hat wore an even longer bright white dress gown and nothing else, not even shoes. It was bad enough she stood out the most from the small crowd of soon-to-be passengers, but what made her presence truly so eerie was the fact she was standing so close behind the business employee the shadow of her wide brim hat would loom over him so much so, it felt like cold night sky had filled the underground subway tunnel itself. In fact she would subtly eye all three of them, yet no one seem to notice or pay her no mind at all, as if she was a ghost only he could see.

He must really be sleepy.

So tired and groggy from the long day of work he tries to fight the impending wave of sleepiness as he took his seat on the far end of the subway car, but ends up slowly closing his eyes all the same...only to shoot upwards in his seat after hearing a soft scream of another man before looking around the subway car. But, all he could see was the teenager sitting on the far other end of the subway car being preoccupied with her cellphone smacking her gums with the chewing gum between her teeth, and standing between them was the tall woman, standing up with one hand gripped against the metal pole and the other, rubbing the wide curve that was her large round belly. Strange, he thought, he didnt remember the woman being pregnant, and a big one at that. Also, wasn't there a short old man boarding the train as well?

He must really be sleepy.

Despite his natural instinct yelling, screaming, that there was something was wrong here with this picture...but his judgement is overruled by another dizzying sleep spell sending his head rocking backwards to fall asleep again. And moments later, yet again, there was another scream, this time it was a frightened whimper of a concerned gasp before the full scream could even reach the business man's ears. His eyes jolting open like pure electricity running through his veins looking around, this time actively wondering if his mind was just playing tricks on him like his eyes were. And just like before, looking around the subway car, everything seemed calm and tranquil, like nothing could possibly be wrong.

Keyword being seemed.

This time however, there was yet another one less passenger missing from the subway car. The girl that was once preoccupied on her phone to notice anyone else seemed to have either departed while the train was still moving, or vanished into thin air. The tall woman however has changed very little, with the small exception of her belly.

No, it was not small, not at all.

It was bigger in fact, so swollen it looked like an overinflated medicine ball glued to her frame that her dress looked mere seconds away from bursting and ripping at the seams. Not to mention, it was so much more active as the kicking inside her grew much more intense, as if something was actively, desperately trying to escape from her, and it's fleshy tomb of a prison. The sight was so otherworldly, the man was sure he was just dreaming. This had to be a dream...

...right?

The business man had not another moment to think this over, for the woman who was staring directly at him for what seemed like the entire subway ride finally moved for the first time to him, drawing closer and closer as her eerie stoic smile made his blood freeze. His eyes growing wide as her inhuman height dwarfed him, before finally hearing her speak for the first time.

"Excuse me, I hate to be a bother, but I would like to have your seat sir. As you can see, I am carrying two bundles of joy with me at the moment..."

As she said this, her hand would rest against the side of her very gravid middle, stroking the vast curve of her sudden girth as if she has been pregnant for months already, with the size to prove it tenfold. Yet there was something very eerie about the way she stared at him, it was a deep, blinkless stare.

"Or is it three? Sorry, I am quite forgetful at times~"

The man would wonder how could she forget how many she was carrying if this was a normal pregnancy as can be, before then wondering if she was implying something else. His suspicion never felt more confirmed with a sudden detailed outline of a screaming face stretching out against the front of the woman's belly and palms pressing hard against the taut surface begging to be let go, this alien sight frightened the man as the sleepless fled from his body and his heart beated fast like a drum in his ears, but it was already too late, he was cornered as his screams filled the darkness of the train tunnel with the woman's laughter echoing right after as he went silent, now a mother of three bundles of joy trapped in the love of her tight and seemingly bottomless womb...

...but of course, why stop there?
