Chapter 40 - riding high

“You should have got them to take us all the way back,” Mike grumbled as the pair of them sat on the bus heading back home a couple of hours later.

Laura rolled her eyes. “Thank you for saving my life, Laura,” she mumbled at him; surprised that having to take public transport was the one thing he had to comment on that day. Her belly felt so stuffed and full, it actually hurt. But it would all be worth it when she got home to Marie in a couple of hours.

“Sorry,” Mike replied, seeming to realise how rude he’d sounded. “I can’t believe that I’m free of that family at last. I still think you should have kept Dean though. It would have taught him a lesson, being at you beck and call every day.”

“But then I would just be like you,” Laura sighed. She could still see the many, many ropes and chains connecting Mike to the women he had once seduced. “I think each time you did that to someone, you lost a little bit of your humanity with it. Since you lost your power, the connections seem to be failing. Some of the ropes seem frayed and the chains are weaker.” She reached out a hand to one and felt the rope crumble into dust from the slightest touch.

“I do feel different,” Mike agreed. “You seem to have a much better handle on it all than I ever did. I could never see the connections like you can.”

“What’re you going to do now?” Laura asked. “You don’t have to live on the run anymore. I made sure that they’ll never come after you again.”

Mike’s eyes widened at the realisation of that. “Yeah, you’re right. I have no idea where to begin! No more fake names and lousy cash-in-hand jobs. Although, I know it’s going to be a lot harder to find love from now on.”

“It’ll be good for you,” Laura chuckled. “I don’t think it was ever genuine love you had from those girls. It was more of an infatuation. Real love is something much better.” She saw the sceptical look that Mike was giving her, clearly thinking about Marie. “I didn’t use this power on Marie, you know? She chose me herself. Twice.”

“I’m sorry that I destroyed Marie’s memories of you,” Mike replied with a little embarrassment. “There’s no way of getting them back. I literally shredded them all.”

Laura sighed a little. She’d already given up on the idea of Marie’s full memories being returned. “Never mind,” she nodded pragmatically. “We’ll make new memories together.

“You two are going to be enormous!” Mike chuckled. “I can’t tell you how many times I had to squash Marie’s fat kinks these last few months. It was getting exhausting. That girl has got it bad. And, after watching you getting fed today, I can see that you’re just as taken by it all.”

The bumpiness of the bus ride was doing nothing for Laura’s indigestion, but she smiled nonetheless. What a life she had to look forward to now. She could feel her belly starting its surge outwards onto her lap and knew that it would be enormous by the time the holidays came back around this year. Marie’s greed had always excited her as well. Between them both, they would spur each other on to heights they could never have dreamt of alone.

Life was going to be good from now on.
